HISTORY

The Getty Street Church of Christ has been part of the Uvalde community since the early 1880s, though the exact founding date is unknown. According to a historic property record hosted by the Texas Historical Commission through DowntownTX, the first structure on the site was a wooden church building.

Over time, the campus expanded in several major phases. An older section of the current building dates to 1929. A brick corner addition was completed in 1932, and a new auditorium was constructed to the south in 1954. Additional renovations and expansions followed, shaping the campus as it stands today.

The property is recognized as a contributing structure within a local historic district and is located in the Historic Downtown Overlay, highlighting its architectural and historical significance to downtown Uvalde.
