Elders serve as the spiritual leaders of the church, providing guidance, teaching, and care for the congregation. They help lead with wisdom, prayer, and biblical understanding, making sure the church stays grounded in its mission and faith. In Uvalde, our elders are committed to shepherding the community, supporting families, and helping individuals grow in their relationship with God.

Deacons
Deacons serve by meeting the practical needs of the church and its members. They focus on supporting day-to-day operations, caring for those in need, and helping create a welcoming and organized environment for worship and outreach. In Uvalde, our deacons are dedicated to serving with humility, ensuring the church can effectively care for its community both inside and outside its walls.

Lucy Olvedo
Lucy Olvedo was born and raised in Uvalde. She attended SWTJC and obtained an associatesdegree. She worked with the Uvalde CISD and retired after 34 years of service. She marriedher husband Richard in 2000 and continue to make their home in Uvalde. Lucy has been amember of Getty Street Church of Christ since 1980.

John Juhasz
John Juhasz is originally from twinsburg, Ohio. After working for 10 years as a musician. He served 10 years in the U.S. Army, as a photojournalist, and afterwards earned a BA from St. Mary's University and an MA from UTSA. Upon graduation, John taught for 25 years at the high school and college levels, including 12 years for the state prison system. He retired in 2021 and he served Getty Street Church of Christ as outreach minister since. John is married to wife Cheryl and they have 6 children, 18 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Erica
Erika Escamilla, born and raised in Uvalde Tx. Graduated high school in 2014. Began working in law enforcement immediately following graduation. Married her highschool sweetheart Daniel Escamilla in February of 2016. Birthed their first daughter (Lyzalyn) in 2020. After some time off at home and being blessed with another amazing daughter (Madilyn), children became the focus of her life and inspired her to make a career change. God arranged the perfect opportunity in becoming a mentor and youth coordinator in 2023 which allows her to support and build healthy relationships with the youth of Getty st. Church of Christ, worshiping together and supporting the youth in their journey with God. When she is not at the church or coordinating a church event, she is at work at her full time job as Administrative Assistant of Uvalde Classical Academy or outdoors with her family enjoying life and new adventures every chance they get! Sing and worship are her absolute favorite things to do in church.
